Fascinated with the other species, humans especially though fairies too, Ren always loved watching them, studying them, and trying to get close and learn all he could about them. Mother always told him to be careful, and big brother was always there to keep him from getting in too much trouble, but he still couldn't help but stick his nose where it didn't belong. The more difficult to get somewhere, the more he wanted in. Traps were just puzzles to be solved, and mysteries were never left to rest until they were uncovered. And when he found himself in sticky situations, the feathers of chickens on his muzzle (he was just curious he swears, though they did smell delicious...), he had his brother to look after him. Wiser, older, and skillful, the reynard was like a father, guardian, and best friend in one. If he was strict sometimes, he was loving, and always there when Ren needed him most.[break][break]
Certainly he was better then Ren's real dad. He was always on tiptoes around him he felt like, and nothing he did was right. He just wanted to play, he was curious and adventurous, but growls, cuffed ears, and teeth at his neck cowed him every time he strayed too far it felt like. Even his greatest joy was spoiled by that tom, and he couldn't help but always remember how much better the fox liked his oldest son over Ren.[break][break]
Not that Ren let that stop him. And the day that he found out he could be the things he most loved, humans, was his happiest day. Playful and eager, he was clumsy at first, but under his brother's tutelage he was able to quickly learn, and soon changing shape was his greatest delight. Then he dipped into magic, and delighted himself with creating illusions. Mischief was his first calling, and he was a trouble maker among humans and fae both, delighting in confusing, startling, and tricking the other species with his talents and tricks. Dangerous or innocent, deadly or harmless, he didn't care who or what he tricked, even the idea of demons was one he laughed at in good nature, fearless and exuberant.[break][break]
If only his father could understand Ren's love and delight in trickery. Cautious, grounded, and wary, he had little amusement, and Ren's recklessness drove him only to anger. Brother Hyaska could always lick his wounds or wrap bandages around his injuries and tend his bruises, but the sting was deep, and the resentment grew. Pushed and prodded, he tried to be more like Hyaska, who his father adored so much. Hard-working, solemn, and determined, Hyaska was a skilled warrior and magician both, and had a bright future as a noble or a knight, putting their kind deep within the workings of others. So Ren tried to take up the human arts, learning the blade and the bow, practicing, fitting in with them.[break][break]
But Ren just wasn't the same. Ambitious, he wanted to be great as well, but he detested having to conform to pretending at being human, and such lofty political schemes and tricks were beyond him. He was no master manipulator or kingly trickster, he was a prankster who loved the small things and the many little mischiefs, chasing butterflies and leading travelers astray with fox fires.[break][break]
Perhaps it was his recklessness that got Ren found. But someone managed to figure out he wasn't human as he seemed, and when a hunter came for him, he panicked and ran. Hyaska managed to hide him, but his father and mother both were rooted out in their stead. Hyaska would tell him that in the following days, several kitsune tails were presented as gifts among the royalty. Confused and sad, for a time Ren wandered, abandoning trying to be human and instead only occasionally adopting the form, a traveler and ronin. In a way he should have been satisfied, finally getting to live the life he wanted, and free of the fox he hated most.[break][break]
But in turn Hyaska had turned cold and distant, losing the spark of warmth and cunning playfulness that had united them for so long. And Ren felt guilty deep inside, mourning for his mother, and in an odd and confusing manner, his father. Eventually he would find solace in the more remote places, learning from the fairies especially how to accept himself and move on, and then finding his joy in humanity again. He managed to move on, and in doing so, found his joy of life again, returning to brightness. He would eventually come to learn that his brother, blaming humans for the death of their parents and bearing grudge against them, would turn to darker spirits, and he was saddened to hear this, but resolved that he would still love Hyaska no matter what, and hoped that perhaps he could eventually find peace for him or turn him to a brighter and better path.[break][break]
Ren would never be quite the same young cub of his youth, but playful still, he wanders a carefree life of a bard, performer, and musician. Curiosity drives him on his goals, and adversity only makes him push harder. Human intrigue him, and fairies delight him, in general he has a vast interest in all species, especially those more unfamiliar or strange to him, and even the dangerous aspect of creatures such as demons and divines only further pique his interest. He still enjoys little tricks, but is not as malevolent or harmful as he might have been unknowingly in his youth, tempered with some wisdom to have care in his delights. Loving and generous, he's charismatic, a force that brightens every room it is in and has a mysterious and almost magnetic air to it. He's not always the most subtle about his powers, but there is still a cunning edge there that tends to mystify or disguise, and he dances at the idea of danger, delighting in the adrenaline and thrill of the chase, though he tries to caution himself from inviting the hounds to pursue, aware now that sometimes others can get hurt too.[break][break]
Ren wouldn't be one to label himself as a hero, in the end he's just a curious pup who likes going anywhere and everywhere he can, and delights in the cities and creations of man and fairy alike, but he does have a strong moral sense about him. While minor misdeeds are common, especially by his own doing, when bigger wrongs come about he tends to fight against them, whether graciously giving and doing acts for the impoverish and poor to fighting bandits. He is tolerant and willing to forgive, even actively seeking to try and help others reform their misdeeds, but when a call to action is given, he's quick to respond. In more casual settings he is foolish and light-hearted, loving nothing more then friends, fun, and delighting in the pleasures of the world, but he has a big and good heart, and helps wherever he can, whether its his business or not.

BLESSED REYNARD
[attr="class","ncpBiography"]

The power of disguise and changing forms is perhaps Ren's most prized and precious ability to himself. By nature he is a fox of three flowing tails, yet by will he can hide those extra tails, shift himself to that of a bipedal beast that had articulate paws to interact as hands and a humanoid figure, or he can change to a humanoid shape completely. In his favored humanoid form, he is a human male of young adulthood, but he can adapt that of a fae or other humans as well with relative ease, though details are easier to miss when not in his practiced shape, eyes amber or slender ears and tail visible, claws adorning hands or whiskers on his cheek. What he misses is oft to change, but only in his favored form is the disguise practically perfect, his only frequent indecisiveness of change in colors, his favorite a bright summer green, but his way of showing sometimes in grassy colored hair, or other times in scarf, his clothing and looks rarely changing, but the colors sometimes shifting if he doesn't pay close attention to what it looked like when he last adopted the form, and his consistency, while usually decent around those he has met prior, doesn't always match.[break][break]
Beyond being able to change his form at will though, Ren is, in many ways, still a fox, and has sharp senses and a clever mind. He doesn't think quite like a normal beast, but has a vulpine cunning to his higher intelligence, and a certain sharpness to details and sensory input that humans lack. In theory his shape changings can also extend to nearly any humanoid figure mimicking even the strangest fae or greater beings, and while the more unfamiliar it is, the more fox-like he appears, he is fairly good at capturing most of the form very quickly, and in his most comfortable forms can change in the blink of an eye.[break][break]
Perhaps the most notable thing besides Ren's fox-like nature and shape-changing skills, is his inborn magic. While he lacks the proper training or spells of human mages and fae practices, he has had the shaping of older kitsune to help and practice to perfect. While it is difficult, if not impossible, for him to craft things on large scale, Ren is capable of doing nearly anything he can imagine. Or at least, making it seem he can do anything. His magic is all illusions, and he is able to craft sounds, smells, and sights, even textures and surfaces. He can seem to bend reality, making delicious meals out of no where, starting fires with bare hands, letting money flow from the heavens, and brewing the finest meads to ever grace lips. From sharp daggers to soft rabbits, he can envision and make anything happen.[break][break]
Or make someone believe in anything he envisions at least. Nothing Ren can do is truly material, and if one can taste his meals or feel the heat of the flames, it will not truly fill their stomach, and will not truly warm their bones. If he stops concentrating or goes far enough away, his summoned coins will vanish, his mead turn to water or air. Even if he can fake sensations, making one believe they are pained or stricken, a check later will find no injury or sting where one had been, and only the belief in his images gives them power, for if one suspects that the dagger is not real, then no perceived edge can truly do them harm, and knowing its a trick quickly dispels what power he has, though discerning some illusions may still be harder then other.
Mind my simple song, this ain't gonna work
MIND MY WICKED WORDS AND TIPSY TOPSY SMIRK
The power of disguise and changing forms is perhaps Ren's most prized and precious ability to himself.
